Farm life has provided me with a new pair of eyes through which I can observe the world. A side where nature is palpable and not simply a beautiful landscape wallpaper on my cell phone screen. Perspectives change between people, based on life experiences, but also between species. Multiple times now, I've found myself staring in appreciation at the careening ball of energy that is Lola, one of our special farm dogs, wondering what she could be thinking, feeling. At two years old, her onyx black body darts from one end of the farm to the other like a bullet spiraling through the vastness of space.

Unlike most dogs residing in the urban setting, Lola runs with a freedom of which I am sometimes jealous. As much as she is a spectacle in speed, she is a wonder in stillness. When she goes into alert mode, her legs buckle, head turns in the direction signaled, ears point upwards like tiny black triangles. I observe and admire that brief moment in time, momentarily transfixed.
